My work is a series of screen prints that tell a narrative of an adolescent rebelling against adulthood. I experienced a spiral of emotions in my early adult years. It felt like I was being put in a box and losing a part of my individual expression. Over and over again, I heard people express how much they missed the person they were when they were young. I've never understood why becoming an adult meant sacrificing my youth. I created this series to show that I will never give up my individuality and youthful personality no matter what my age is. The series overall creates a sense of rebellion. That is why I chose to layout my prints the way I did in the gallery because it rebels against gallery standards.

My digital photographs are the starting point of my work, and then I add a halftone effect with Photoshop. The photos are then divided into four separate CMYK layers. CMYK refers to the cyan, magenta, yellow, and black colors found in the image. The CMYK layers were printed on acetate. The acetate sheets that separate the CMYK colors are exposed and burned onto four different screens and are ready for printing. In my printing process, I started with magenta, followed by yellow, cyan, and black. After layering each color on top of each other, I have my completed print.

I made the intentional decision to emphasize the “mistakes” of the CMYK layers not being perfectly printed or lined up by including these prints in my final work. This decision supports my concept and represents the mistakes we make in our youth. However, I’m also emphasizing the idea that I'm expected to make fewer mistakes in adulthood, when in reality, I'm making just as much, if not more and greater ones.
